My Shih Tzus have been pleasant. I have bred them for 25+ years. Many of the opinions expressed in this video contradict my experience, some expressed in the video even contradict the video, too. As with any dog, consistency and persistence matter. They are excellent companion animals, especially for the elderly and people with mobility challenges. At the moment, five hairy gremlins share my home with me. Our problems largely center around the squirrels and rabbits who refuse to honor our territorial integrity. There is an owl which runs its mouth, sharing its opinions day and night, but the pack reminds them all to keep out. My girls and boys know no strangers and are eager to share licks and kisses with anyone. I suspect that any burglary would be foiled by dog toys and the incessant licking they will receive.

This video is factually incorrect.

Some of these are territorial behaviours and some are subjective and depends on the dog. Shih tzus all have very unique personalities, that's part of their appeal. Mine is very loving and sweet, she likes to play sometimes but very quiet compared to most shih tzus. Some of this doesn't necessarily mean they hate you

My new Morkie doesn’t like me at all. He will go into a frenzy and bite me in attacking mode!! I’ve shown him nothing but love and affection towards him. He literally (speaking) hates me. If things don’t go his way.. he will attack me. He’s territorial if I try to go near anyone he’s trying to keep me away. He bites the hand that feeds him. He is 10 months old on the 15th of August (this month) he’s in heat and not nuertered.. I’m so confused. Yesterday he just went into attack mode, no reason at all. I was on a FaceTime call with my daughter he went into his frenzy and it was a bad one. He couldn’t calm down. The only thing I can think of is that I got him a few days before Christmas and he was 6 weeks old. So tiny and went with me everywhere. Had a job that I had to work 2 days after getting him. Maybe no consistency at first and then it was Christmas and a lot of visiting and visitors? Then we had a pipe leak in January and so much going on with a flood in my apartment a lot of noise and workers in and out ? Idk but I know my dog hates me. I’ve had dogs all my life childhood and adulthood and this is the first time I had a male dog? Not sure all i know is it is a daily task and horrible when he gets into his frenzy! I have trained dogs all but male dogs. Only female dogs. The past few decades of having dogs I had Shih Tzu females and such good family dogs! They knew I was the leader of the pack yet they always were great with the whole family. This is definitely an experience that makes me feel crappy. A 5-7 lb Teddy bear Morkie is a beast when he’s in his frenzy! Like a spoiled toddler if he isn’t getting what he wants as I am the one who trains feeds and plays with.. he is a beast and thankfully he’s not a Rottweiler or American Bully or id be seriously injured or dead. A Shih Tzu is a high maintenance dog. I've always owned them, and they have to be combed daily to prevent their fur from matting up, the fur also has to be trimmed around the eyes to prevent eye infections and inside the ears, also nails cut regularly. They are great dogs , however you have to keep up with their maintenance and that can be costly for a lot of seniors.

I have a fur baby named Sheba and I am a diabetic and have a heart condition she's very protective of me and thanks me for everything I do for her ( I get loves and cuddles) ❤my fur baby. She's not so fond of my husband even though he does for her when I can't. We don't train them they train us 🙂.
